 Pirating ships
« Thread Started on Aug 24, 2007, 1:11am »

As DE are pirates could they steal enemy ships and retrofit them with their own weapons and gear so as to counteract their limited choices? I was thinking it would be cool to have a "stolen"
Eldar voidstalker with Dark Eldar upgrades to show the new ownership/customization.

Go to the shipyard, make something up. ;)
Of course, the chances of actually finding and corrupting a Voidstalker are minimal.
Then there's the fact that about ten thousand or so murderous Eldar will be trying to kill you as you board.
Then there's also the ship's infinity circuit that will try to kill you in minor and annoying ways, such as:
Growing wraithbone spines to impale you in a matter of seconds.
Emitting a psychic scram liable to fry your little DE brain.
Venting the atmosphere from any section you appear to be in.
Initiating some kind of self-destruct failsafe system.

If you manage to believably get past all of those, and still have an intact (or at least not hulked) Voidstalker, then maybe, just maybe you'll be able to use it. After training the slaves for several centuries of course. ;)

This isn't a dig at you, or the idea, which I think is great. I'm just trying to say how difficult it would be for the DE to achieve something like this.

Rule 1: Pillage, then burn.
Rule 2: There are only two combat orders; Open Fire and Reload.
Rule 3: If violence was your last resort, you did not resort to enough of it.

It's worth noting that while the DE only have one cruiser and one escort, both have 4 ways of configuration, making a total of 8 different ships.

There is no overkill, there is only "open fire!" and "I need to reload"

Hmm, I like the idea but I would say a Void Stalker is a bit far-fetched. It's rare to see the Eldar using them, netalone DE. :)
However Light cruisers such as the Solaris/Aurora or the Escort ships could be cool.

Stolen ships would be a great idea, and add more variety to the tiny DE fleet list. Maybe looted Imperial cruisers would be a better idea? Although I can't see Eldar being too happy about using crude mon-keigh technology, they'd probably use it if it would be useful, say an ambush or something.

Personally, I'd think the Dark Eldar (all Eldar, in fact) would consider the ships of other races far too primitive to be worth taking.

On the other hand, I think the Dark Eldar / Craftworld Eldar could well make use of the Corsair ships, and vice-versa (either hiring them as allies, or stealing the d**n things). As such, how about allowing a Dark Eldar fleet to spend up to 1/3rd of its points on Corsairs?

I think that would be good, particularly for the campaign because a list of two ships is a bit limited, tactically :)

Although the various configurations give the DE more of a range of possibilities with Cruiser-sized ships than the Eldar. :)
I think it will just spice the DE fleet up a bit to have more than two hulls in the mix. :P

Feel free to post some unofficial ships up in the ship yard, if enough people approve them I'm sure they could be included in the campaign if you wanted. 8-)
