+++Right, having (almost) certainly decided on getting the BFG boxed set sometime in the near future (December or January?), I need to decide on a colour scheme that hopefully ties in with the colour scheme of my Chaos armies, primarily my CSM one - blazing orange and regal blue. So what do you people suggest? I think they might look quite good with blazing orange and then two or three coats of a darker coloured ink to get into the recesses and make the overall impression less bright. Then I could pick out some of the details in regal blue. Sound good? Sound like a stupid idea? Got a better suggestion? Then tell me +++

Mmmm, might look a bit garish. I suggest you go for a dark blue, and highlight small details (lights, windows, gun barrels etc) with the blazing orange.

I'd go with Yurrath's suggestion. That way the orange would stand out while the other way around the blue might be overwhelmed by the orange.
The chaos ships have a fine series of rased lines in a pattern along the front and back. Picking these out in the secondary colour can look quite cool and with your colour choices will look quite sinister and/or demented.

+++Well, I made this pic to give a rough comparison between the two possible colour schemes. As always it's a bitmap, although this one shouldn't take too long to load (the details aren't meant to be accurate at all, just give a rough impression):

Of course I don't mind. Actually, as a bitmap I think the orange colour scheme looks better...but I think that the blue colour scheme will work better with the paint.

+++Well I could always paint one ship in each colour scheme before I start on the rest of the fleet... but I dunno how to strip paint. How do I?+++

If you don't mind a bit abotu the cost Brake Fluid is your best bet. Soak them overnight in the stuff then take an old toothbrush to them under running watter. That works pretty well though all the corners and such on a cruiser are a bit of a pain to clean out.

+++Or I suppose I could just use a couple of escort ships as test dummies instead, then it wouldn't take so much cleaning off of paint +++

Yeah that would be a better idea. You could just paint a part of a ship, and then re-spray it? Or, if you're a particularly gifted artist, you could draw examples.

Although this info is 3 yrs overdue, might be useful for the next person. To remove paint use paint thinner, the same stuff you use to get the paint off your paint brushes. Leave the model in a container of it overnight, should be weak enough to scrape off after that.
