I've made the four Imperial ships that come in the boxed set: 2x Lunar Class Cruisers 1x Gothic Class Cruiser 1x Overlord Class Battlecruiser I think that I will have Lunar Class Cruisers as the 'mainstay' ship type in the Imperial fleet, so I modelled those exactly as they are shown in the 'Getting Started' booklet that came with the boxed set. The Overlord Class Battlecruiser actually looked a little small compared to the Lunar's so I added antennae down the center of the hull and either side of the bridge and now it looks far more formiddable. The Gothic looks cool, all those turrets! I refrained from adding the prow ram, to make it appear wider. Does the prow ram actually do anything? I couldn't find any rules that applied to them. I haven't made the Chaos ships yet, which ones do you think I should have? Bear in mind that they need to be the equivalent to the four ships above, so that games will be fair.

Gothics and Lunars pretty mucha are the mainstay of any Imperial fleet. Lunars because they are good all around ships, Gothics because after making the other ships you have a bunch of lance platforms and not much else! Seriously. I have six cruisers and while only one wound up a gothing I still have a bitz box full of lance turrets and launch bays. Unfortunatly GW and Specialist games seem to have not designed a lance/carrier type cruiser or even a pure carrier cruiser. Also looking in the book the only way to tell a mars form a Dictator and a Overlord form the smaller cruisers is that the battle cruisers both have turrets on the dorsal spine.
*sigh*
The prow rams really don't do anything other than give some variety to the ships and help fill the spot for the nova cannon. Some people have come up with rules for them but there is nothing offical.
Not sure for the Chaos. Need to look at my book again and get back on that. Going to be gone for the weekend though for a belated Christmas so I'll get back to you Monday sometime.

Yes, I gathered as much, they seemed to be the best 'all-rounder' vessels. I ran out of turrets on the gothic, I am missing two on the starboard side, but nevermind eh!
The only other striking difference that I can think of is that they have 2 sets of batteries on either side, and only one of the smaller cruisers has those (the Dominator Class).
