Well, the problem comes from before the experimental rules where put into effect. Before that Fighters and bombers ruled the battlefield so much that escorts got pushed pretty much out of the picture. Now under the new rules the Escorts stand a chance again and the shift has been back to the manouvers, not how many fleets of bombers you could get in the air before jamming.

Even though this may change but it looks like the Lunar is my Ship to field. Playing against Eldar and Necrons the Lunar has the Lances and WB (weapons batteries) to hurt both and torpedos to boot! Plus two Lunars are the same points as a Retribution BB. But two Luars throw out 3 more torpedos.

I don't have an ork fleet (yet), but I have to say the Brute ram ship is an absolute blast! An escort designed to ram? So good. So orky.
Of the fleets I do have: Tau: Dhows. The only ship that has some speed in the whole fleet and a nice change from relying on ordinance.
Imperial: Retribution. More for how it looks and how it brawls, as opposed to how effective it actually is.
Necrons: Tombship. It's just so nasty. If the victory point rules weren't so dangerous, I'd probably have chosen those neat little shrouds.
Tyranids: Anything with massive claws. I just love the idea of a ship in melee. Add in some spores and you can clean up no-sheild eldar and necrons (if you can ever catch them).
Space Marines: Strike cruiser. Speed, firepower and decent hardness, this is a game breaker.
As an endnote, I do enjoy playing against some of the really unusual stuff like blackstones, planetkillers and hulks. I just don't see enough of that stuff for my taste.

I bought my mate an Emperor Class a couple of years ago...but he hasn't finished putting it together yet. The lack of instructions makes it's construction pretty horiffic.

My Favorite Ship currently is the Mars battlecruiser. First one I built and painted. Used it in a few games and it has yet to fail me. With the upgrade it is one of the best combat ships at all ranges.
