Does anyone out here use Space Marines?
I was looking at the stats of the Battle Barges and they seem very strong but very expensive, must be that +6 armor.

Yes, the fleet is somewhat limited. After the Fall of the Great One, it was decided that the SM would not have access to large IN vessels in order to prevent traitors getting away with a large number of IN vessels (almost Half).
Space Marine Fleets are limited. Most chapters have access to two or three battle barges. These battle barges are by design are made for transport, delivery and suppression for ground assault. Each Barge carrying a Bombardment Cannon. Except the Bombardment Cannon is very deadly when turned against another vessel as well.
The choice for SM ships is limited but they do have very good armor and of course made for SM assaults which mean boarding actions. I mean what ship admiral wants a squad of terminators running around in his ship causing havoc.
I think I am rambling but
I started to piece together a small SM fleet, if all goes well, I should have a 700 to 1000 point force together soon.

one of the main reasons they are not poular is because they are somewhat weak when compared to otehr fleets, any fleet that is heavy on lances will kill them and there is no way they can stop that

I am an avid Space Marine Player. The whole point of the Battle Barge is to take hits. Also, it's great against Necrons - ramming speed!!! Once in a Necron battle one guy decided to get close to my barge and use the Sepulche, big mistake! I passed, barges get 10 Ld for only +50 points, and ordered him rammed. Poor Necron. The problem against them, however is that your escorts that form the base of your firepower are practically useless, so you want to take two Battle Barges and Nova Class Frigates, cause mass lances are needed. Gladius' however are best against Eldar, so you take various escorts depending on who you play. Hunter Class escorts were made to obliterate Chaos and Orks. Also good against pirates with regular technology. My current 1,000 navy list: Battle Barge called Obliterator Supported by 12 Hunter Escorts vs. Chaos/Ork/Pirates Gladius Escorts vs. Eldar Nova Escorts vs. Necron Chapter is Ultramarine Beta, because Ultramarines have no trouble building escorts.

Battlebarges are not so popular in competitive games, as like almost every other battleship, they are slow and turn crappy. This makes them vulnerable to faster things that cost alot less points.
Sure, they put out an obscene amount of firepower and look awesome, but really cruisers have better value for the points.
Which brings me to the strike cruiser. That is an awesome craft. Not as hard as many other cruisers, but has some speed and turning ability. My competitive SM fleet is mostly made up of strike cruisers and some escorts (mainly for lances).

Last time I played against Marines, I was using a Necron fleet and playing Exterminatus (as the defender).
God, that Battle Barge soaked up far too many shots! I think I used the phrase "Why won't you die?" three times.

Im currently in a campaign where We use BFG to get from planet to planet (ship markers on the solar system board move 6" a campaign turn and if they hit another fleet there is a battle) And as I play Salamander space marines I decided I needed some way to transport my troops from planet to planet. So I took 4 strike cruisers and the imperial commander has alloted me the reinforcement points to pay for a battle barge. So I will report back to this grave yard on how it does once it sees some action.
