The rules for turning with Eldar are a bit ambiguous.
The actual wording is:
Eldar ships move in their movement phase and in the ordnance phase of their own turn. Note that they do not move in the ordnance phase of the enemies turn.
Before an Eldar ship moves, it may turn to face any direction. It always turns before it moves and then remains facing in that direction until the start of it's next move.
Emphasis mine.
Now, when playing against LordDemon, and for the first half of my second game with Ravager Zero, I was told that this meant I must choose a direction at the beginning of my turn, and then both my normal move and my ordnance move must be that direction.
However this meant I was pretty screwed, because to aim at a ship meant I had to move towards it, or not at all.
This meant that any ordnance move made by an Eldar ship that had fired at an enemy ship that turn must be made towards that target. Which pretty much meant I ended up flying right into LordDemon's torps/Ravager Zero's strength 20-odd WB.
Half way through my second game with Ravager Zero we got into a discussion about it, and I suggested that maybe Eldar ships could turn before both moves, as the wording is:
...remains facing in that direction until the start of it's next move...
...not it's next turn.
Or that perhaps they can only turn once per turn, but if they don't turn before their first move they may turn before thier ordnance move. This would mean ships like the Nightshade can actually be used as is described in the fleet list - to move towards a target, fire, and then turn away and escape, in one turn.
If they can't do this then they must simply aim at an enemy ship, fire and then not use their ordnance move, otherwise they just fly right into enemy guns.
So I was just wondering if anyone could clarify this? Because not knowing this (amongst other things) has cost me three games now.
Cheers!
