meh, you really think messengers are that worth it? they seem kinda iffy to me, considering tau dont really have mass batteries to begin with. They might look weak on paper, but they can be highly effective if used properly. They are also invaluable against other races ordnance due to the fact they allow you to re-roll misses with your turrets. I could, of course, experiment with exchanging some or all of them for Torpedo bombers and see how that works.

Depends, a Hero class is the must useful ship with messengers. Due to the fact it can be configured to fire 12 Batteries in its forward firing arc. These all have a range of 45cm so engaging at that range is somewhat important to lessen the broadside impact from the return fire coming the next turn (in all likely hood). The messenger stops the shift on the table due to being over 30cm range.
Due to this ordnance may be used in an attempt to damage the hero and so the messengers re-roll to target with turrets will be of use. Especially as the Hero has 3 turrets.
The protector can benefit from this as well however it has less batteries than the Hero config. You can get more protectors than heroes though (whether FW list, GW list or CPF list!)
