Perhaps some of you writers would be interested in NaNoWriMo! Basically, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. The aim? To write a 50,000 word novel in a month. There were something like 45,000 participants worldwide last year, and there's going to be a lot more this year, me included . Simple maths tells me that you need to write 1,667 words per day.. oh dear.. I remember struggling with 1,500 word Geography essays last year.. but that involved research I suppose.. Anyway, perhaps some of you would like to give it a go? Bury your social life, get the kettle on, and prepare for the most sleep-deprived 30 days of your life ;D. Edit: Ahem, stupid link wouldn't work I'm an HTML man, dammit!

Psychology? Religious Studies? Are you mad!? Lol, anyway, I've read some of the NaNoWriMo forum posts and there are people in there who have barely an hour a day, but they're still attempting it. But I suppose it all depends on whether you really want to write a book. The whole point of it is to tackle those with 'one day' syndrome (that is, "one day I will write a novel"). As they say, "If not now, then when?" Personally, I'm hoping that cramming 50,000 words into one month will make it easier for me to set time aside for writing in the future. And call me strange, but sitting up at 3am saturated with caffeine has a disturbing allure to it... Most of the people doing it seem to be in their 30s or 40s, but the youngest I've heard of is 8 Anyway, I'm rambling because I have nothing better to do.. I suppose this skill may come in handy next month ;D

You don't know what you're missing out on. At the start of the weekend, I should have had just less than 20,000 words... I had 10,000. Last night, I should have had 23,500. I broke the halfway point (25,000) ;D Yes, I am insane. I wrote 15,000 words in 3 days (12,000 in 2 days over the weekend, to sound even more impressive). I'm going to need the whole of December to recover though! Edit: It is now the 30th of November. 30 days ago, I opened up Word and stared at a blank page. Today, I open that same Word document and see 89 pages of complete crap - but it's 50,000 words. I am a NaNoWriMo winner *stares at winner's certificate in awe*
